Type Locality and Naming
Jiaolai Basin. The Qugezhuang Formation was named by the No 1 Petroleum Exploration Team in 1962. The type locality is in the Longwangzhang Town of the Laiyang City. The key section is the Longwangzhang- Dataozhang section in Longwangzhang Village of Laiyang (120°48', 36°57').
Lithology and Thickness
The Qugezhuang Formation is a group of purple grey and purple red conglomerate, gravel-bearing sandstone and siltstone, intercalated with andesitic or rhyolitic rocks. It is 60 to 400 m thick.

Lower contact
The Qugezhuang Formation unconformably overlies the Longwangzhuang Fm or Yanjiazhuang Fm.
Upper contact
The Qugezhuang Formation unconformably underlies the Bamudi Fm.
